If you didn’t have coverage during 2023, you won’t have to pay a fee when you file your federal taxes.
Some states charge a fee if you don’t have health coverage
If you live in a state that requires you to have health coverage and you don’t have coverage (or an exemption), you’ll be charged a fee when you file your 2023 state taxes. Check with your state or tax preparer.
You will NOT get Form 1095-A unless you or someone in your household had Marketplace coverage for all or part of 2023.

If you had no coverage for only part of 2023, or other household members had different coverage, select the other coverage:
- Marketplace plan with the premium tax credit
- Marketplace plan without the premium tax credit
- Job-based coverage
- Other coverage
