When no plan is available

Share:

If no plans are available, you may be able to get health coverage one of these ways:

  • Directly from an insurance company. You can contact any health insurance company and ask if any plans are available in your area. Many have websites that let you compare all plans they sell.
  • With an insurance agent or broker. Generally, agents work for a single health insurance company, while brokers sell plans from several. Both can help you find out if other plans are available to you in your area. They’re generally paid by the insurance company whose plans they sell.
  • From an online health insurance seller. These services offer health plans from a number of insurance companies. They let you compare prices and features and then enroll with the insurance company.

You may be able to get medical care through a community health center

If you don’t have health coverage, you can get medical care through a community health center. They’re located in both urban and rural areas. The price you pay for care depends on your income. Some services you can get:

  • Prenatal care
  • Baby shots
  • General primary care
  • Referrals to specialized care, including mental health, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS

Locate a community health center near you.

You may have options if things change

If the information you gave us when you applied has changed, let us know as soon as possible. Changes may affect plans available to you and financial help, including your eligibility for free or low-cost coverage through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). If you move, your new area may have plans available.
