Why do I need to verify my identity?

Before you can enroll in Marketplace health coverage, we need to verify your identity to protect you and your personal information.

This way someone else can't create an account and apply for health coverage in your name without your knowledge.

Here's how it works:

  • We'll ask questions only you can answer based on information in your credit report.
  • You pick an answer from a list of possible choices.
  • When you answer enough questions correctly, you can continue with your application.
  • If we can’t verify your identity, we'll ask you to check your information and try again. If that doesn't work, we’ll give you a phone number to call, or ask you to send copies of documents that confirm your identity. Find out more about documents you can submit.
