If everyone on your Marketplace application has Marketplace coverage with financial help, but some people were found eligible for coverage through Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), they’re not eligible to get help paying for their Marketplace coverage. You can end coverage for just some people on your Marketplace plan, like your spouse or dependents. If they still want a Marketplace plan after having been found eligible for Medicaid or CHIP, they’ll have to pay full cost for their share of the Marketplace coverage, if they’re eligible. There are several steps you should take to enroll in Marketplace coverage for only some people:
- Review your “Eligibility Results,” if you haven’t done so already.
- Go to Step 3: Continue to Enrollment. Select the “Continue to Enrollment” button.
- Choose and enroll in a plan for everyone on your application who’s currently eligible for Marketplace coverage. You’ll only be able to enroll in a Marketplace plan for the people who are eligible. The people who are eligible for Medicaid or CHIP won’t display. If you’re eligible for a Special Enrollment Period, you can select a new plan, if you’d like to.
- Once you confirm the Marketplace enrollment, your application changes will be processed and Marketplace coverage will end for the people who were found eligible for Medicaid or CHIP. In most cases, this will happen immediately unless one of these happens:
- Your coverage will end on the last day of the current month if those eligible for a Marketplace plan enroll on or before the 15th of the month.
- Your coverage will end on the last day of the next following month if those eligible for a Marketplace plan enroll after the 15th of the month.
Note: The timeframes above also apply if people staying on the Marketplace plan qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. The coverage end date for the person no longer applying for Marketplace coverage will align with the coverage effective dates of the Special Enrollment Period.
You can also enroll in coverage for just some members of your household members by phone. Contact the Marketplace Call Center by calling 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325).
