Ending your Marketplace plan if you have Medicaid or CHIP

Share:

If you’re enrolled in Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), you don’t qualify for premium tax credits or other savings for a Marketplace plan. If you still want a Marketplace plan, you’d have to pay full price.

How do I end my Marketplace plan?

If everyone on your Marketplace application is enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP, you can end your Marketplace coverage by following these steps.

  • Visit HealthCare.gov, log into your Marketplace account, and select your most recent application.
  • Select “Application Details” on the left side of the screen.
  • See your “Marketplace & Medicaid/CHIP coverage” information. Answer a brief question about each person’s Medicaid or CHIP enrollment status.
  • Click on “My Plans & Programs.”

Do NOT select the green “Update Application” button.

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and select the “End (Terminate) All Coverage” button.

Can I keep my Marketplace plan?

If you don’t take action to end Marketplace coverage for everyone on your Marketplace application who’s enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP, your Marketplace coverage will continue, but you'll lose any financial help you're getting. You'll have to pay the full price for it.
